This year the sixth-grade class will work to grow spiritually and intellectually throughout all subjects. In reading we will be learning through a variety of novel units. They will strengthen their writing skills through several types of research projects. In math, the students will learn more about place value, positive rational numbers, ratios, geometry, and measurement. They will be learning about matter, motion and energy in Science. They will also be doing a variety of experiments and activities to explore the nature of science and engineering. In Social, the sixth-graders will learn more about Minnesota history. They will also learn about U.S History, the relationship between the levels of the government, and the role of Minnesota throughout. In Religion we will be exploring the Word of God in the Old Testament. This includes learning about the feasts and seasons of the church, unpacking the Bible, and strengthening their prayer life. In my classroom, I hope to help each student build a love for learning and the desire to be challenged in all subjects. I hope that they continue to build a strong relationship with Christ as they prepare for their futures beyond Sacred Heart.

6th Grade Teacher

Mrs. Detloff

My name is Abbie Detloff and I am the sixth-grade teacher here at SHAS. This is my eighth year and I am having a wonderful experience here at SHAS.  I’m excited to spend another year helping the students learn and grow in their faith. I spent the last 7 years teaching second grade and am very excited for the opportunity to work with our sixth graders this year!

I attended Sacred Heart Area School from kindergarten to grade 6.  I graduated from Staples-Motley High School and then attended Minnesota State University Moorhead where I received an Elementary Inclusive Education degree.

I’m currently living in Motley, MN with my husband Cory, our children Isaiah, Lydia, Lucy and Aiden. My family loves to spend time outside and go camping. When I am not teaching, I love to spend time with family and friends, play volleyball, and read. I feel extremely blessed to be a part of the staff here at Sacred Heart and I am very excited to be here for another year!
