Our preschool program promotes spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social growth of the young children in our care.

The curriculum creates a play-based and hands-on learning environment in which children can learn about their individual talents, develop social skills, enjoy their peer environment, and grow into independent and enthusiastic learners.

We offer two groupings to fit your child’s needs:

Our 3s & 4s group is perfect for students who have no or limited experience with a school or daycare program. Children will learn the routines and will grow in their ability to thrive outside of the home environment in this classroom.

Our 4s & 5s is more suited for students who are planning to make the leap to Kindergarten in the next year. This is focused on ‘Kindergarten Preparedness’ and will have a stronger emphasis on the academic side of things.

Both program are available Full Time or Part Time. Full Time = $27/day, 5 Days a week Part Time = $30/day 1-4 days a week. Both programs qualify for free BeforeCare (7:00-8:00 a.m.) and AfterCare (3:00-5:30pm).

Children in the program engage in letter and number work, directed and free form art programs, free play, handwriting practice, play-based learning with open creation stations that include role playing, small motor skill development, building and “making” as well as hands on tactile and creative exploration.

Our Preschool strives to:

  • Assist with hygiene and self-help skills such as caring for all personal needs in a classroom environment (basic self management required prior to start of school year).

  • Provide preparation for kindergarten in a loving, caring Catholic environment.

  • Encourage the child to grow in an awareness of self and others through the love of God.

  • Develop age appropriate patterns of dependence and independence.

  • Grow in social and emotional skills, including appropriate expression of emotion, ability to manage aggression and stress, and focused participation in activities.

  • Increase language skills in both listening and communicating.

  • Develop perceptual and motor skills by practicing many kinds of hands-on and interactive materials for fine motor and large motor development.

  • Help children to identify with themselves as cooperative members of a group, as well as learn to appreciate their unique, God-given talents as individuals.

  • Enhance creative skills and enjoyment through experiences with art materials, music, building, and play.

About Mrs. Koetter

Hello, my name Ann Koetter I’ve been teaching at SHAS since 2016 and have been teaching PreK since 2014.

I was born and raised in Long Prairie, Minnesota. I attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in grades 1-6. I graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1992. I then went on to college at St. Cloud State University. I graduated from SCSU in 1998 with a Bachelors of Science degree. I majored in Elementary Education and minored in Mathematics. I married my husband David in 1996 and had the first of our three sons in 1997. I worked in the Long Prairie School as an Educational Aide in the Special Education program until the arrival of our second son. I took a few years off to be with my boys and then I began subbing in the Swanville School, where my children attended school. I worked as a substitute teacher for 10 years and really enjoyed the experience. I subbed for everything from Early Childhood Special Education to High School Calculus and everything in between, even Band and Shop! It was through subbing that I found my passion in Early Childhood Special Education and decided to apply for graduate school to pursue a degree and license in that area of education. I am a strong advocate for early intervention and believe in establishing a firm foundation in education for my students to build  their educational careers upon .

My family has lived in Swanville for over 20 years. I have three adult sons (Ryan, Tanner and Jamison) that all live at home yet. In my spare time I enjoy any and all arts & crafts, reading, crocheting, walking our dogs and being on the water in any capacity. I LOVE fishing and am quite competitive with all of my boys, especially my husband David. I also enjoy kayaking, pedal boating, and chilling on the dock or in the pontoon with a good book.
